From July 19 to 25, 2021 in Otrębusy near Warsaw we managed to realize Short-Term Joint Staff Training, during which teams from Latvia, Poland, and Romania discussed critical thinking, fake news, and media in general and their truthfulness. Unfortunately, due to the COVID situation, the team from Turkey couldn’t make it to the meeting place and we realized the goals of the Short-Term Joint Staff Training with a reduced group. We would like to thank all the participants who actively participated in the program activities. The next meeting will be the final meeting in Turkey!
Fake news is nothing new. But bogus stories can reach more people more quickly via social media than what good old-fashioned viral emails could accomplish in years past.
Concern about the phenomenon led Facebook and Google to announce that they’ll crack down on fake news sites, restricting their ability to garner ad revenue. Perhaps that could dissipate the amount of malarkey online, though news consumers themselves are the best defense against the spread of misinformation. Not all of the misinformation being passed along online is complete fiction, though some of it is.
